Kaha Peach Summertime Smoothie
Loving yourself enough to lead a healthy lifestyle is my wish for you.Yes, you!
As each day begins, we all have the opportunity to make meal choices that directly impact our mind, body and spirit.
Whether you have time to prep or on-the-go, protein is a must at every age!
Protein is responsible for building and maintaining tissue and organs. It’s essential for synthesizing hormones, enzymes and antibodies. Protein is integral in the formation of collagen, actin and keratin. Let me remind you, all three are directly linked to fabulous skin, hair and nails. The proper daily intake of protein will help maintain fluid balance and even power up a sluggish thyroid. Protein helps stop sugar cravings on the spot by promoting satiety and making weight loss attainable. Children absolutely require the marvellous macro-nutrient for mental development and growth.
It’s not always an easy task to fuel the body everyday with at least .5 grams of protein per pound of body weight. Protein requirements grossly vary depending on age, sex, weight and height. Another key determining factor is whether you are sedentary, active or an athlete. With so many options on the shelf, it makes navigating the brands overwhelming. Today I'm giving you the “411” on the brand highlighted in Life Watchers, a healthy lifestyle course offered in all Goodness Me locations. Choosing KAHA, a grass-fed New Zealand protein powder ensures the body receives all essential and non-essential amino acids or in simpler terms, a “complete protein”. KAHA is a tribal Maori word meaning strength, energy, stamina, power, ability and courage.
KAHA starts by ensuring their Jersey and Holstein-Fresian herds graze outside year round on pesticide and chemical-free clean green grass. Animals are never given hormones, antibiotics, chemicals, hyper-immunizations, GMO's or injected with pathogens. Consumers can sleep easy at night knowing KAHA doesn’t give rBST or rBGH, common hormones found in factory farmed meat.
KAHA products are produced in a state-of-the-art facility following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). KAHA'S impressive nutritional profile and rich creamy taste reflect their focus on strict quality control.
Grass-fed is definitely the “whey” to go when choosing an animal based protein powder. What a cow eats directly impacts the net value of what it produces. Grass-fed herds produce dairy higher in Omega-3's. Lowering blood pressure, helping manage heart disease and combating depression are definitely something to get excited about. Grass-fed dairy also contains 300-500% more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) than grain-fed cows. CLA is a healthy fatty acid that has gained and maintained popularity as a weight-loss supplement. Grass-fed cows also out rank their grain-fed competitors in higher levels of Vitamin A, E and anti-oxidants.
KAHA concentrate or isolate? It’s up to you!
Both proteins were produced using cross flow microfilteration (CFM) which produces 100% denatured whey protein powder. Controlling cravings is easy with New Zealand Whey Pro-Series concentrate. It contains twenty four grams of protein which the body absorbs within 2 hours.
New Zealand Whey Pro-Series Isolate on the other hand contains 30 grams of protein per serving. I love that it’s lactose-free and easier to digest than the concentrate. I have found even those was dairy sensitivities can tolerate isolate powder. Athletes and seniors break down muscle protein quickly, making isolate an awesome alternative since it’s water soluble.
Whether you choose isolate or concentrate, grass-fed cows dine on a nutrient rich diet, making their dairy an essential ingredient in a beneficial body boosting protein powder. Adding a scoop or two a day of biologically active proteins plays a role in antioxidant production. Positive side effects include increased red cell production and improved liver and immune function.Maintaining a healthy body weight and lean body mass helps lower your risk of diabetes, heart disease and a long list of other health conditions.
Whether you are hitting the gym, yoga mat or pounding the pavement on foot or bike, enjoying a protein shakepost-workout helps restore and replenish tired muscles. On-the-go and a busy lifestyle are not a reason to skip meals. Please don't sacrifice your health for fast-food options! Power packed protein shakes fuel even the busiest bee!
In week one of Life Watchers, students learn the importance of protein. Starting the day with a smoothie is simple, time sensitive and smart!
